Cleck stars at opening

TWO of Cleckheaton’s favourite sporting stars will be back at the club on Sunday to open the refurbished bar at Moorend.

Yorkshire cricket captain Andrew Gale and former British Lions rugby star John Bentley are part of Cleckheaton sporting folklore and will open the club’s impressive new facilities.

Gale is still registered for Cleckheaton CC and played one game in the Bradford League last summer, while Bentley is a former player and coach of the Moorenders rugby section.

Bentley’s Lions shirt, from the famous tour of South Africa in 1997, along with one of Gale’s Yorkshire shirts sit proudly on the wall at the Cleckheaton club.

The opening is at 2pm and everyone is welcome.

n Cleckheaton RU are due to host Pocklington in North One East tomorrow (2.15pm) but it would take a significant thaw for the game to go ahead. Visit www.cleckheaton rugbyclub.com, join the club’s facebook page or follow @Cleckheaton RUFC on twitter for updates on if the game will go ahead.
