Cleckheaton set for test of steel

CLECKHEATON should have a far stronger side on duty for their first home game of the season when Sheffield visit Moorend tomorrow in North East One (kick off 3pm).

A patched up Cleckheaton suffered a 32-25 defeat at promoted Malton and Norton last Saturday, while the promoted steel city men, had a 55-3 success at Gateshead.

Cleckheaton will again be without Jonno Marshall and back row forward Tom Brook, who both had shoulder operations in the summer and will be unavailable in the long-term. Dave Freeman is serving in Afghanistan.

However, the Moorenders should have a far stronger half-back partnership on duty tomorrow with last season’s young player of the year Ollie Depledge returning alongside experienced stand-off Iain Gordon.

Matt Piper (back) should also be fit to take his place on the bench tomorrow.

n The club invite youngsters aged seven to 15 years to give rugby union a go and are holding a taster evening next Wednesday (6.30pm), on the main pitch at Moorend. Everyone welcome.

There is a full fixture programme for juniors and social events during the year.
