The McCullochs proved the stars of the show as Heckmondwike Petanque Club held its first melee competition.
Players took part in three rounds with a variety of team mates and it was Clive McCulloch who came out on top with three wins and a plus-22 points difference. His wife Carol was joint second with plus-17, along with Pat Hardwick.
Club chairman Paul Simpkins was the only other person to win all three games, finishing with plus-9.
Roger Farrar experienced the vagaries of the sport. After recently recording the club’s first competitive win, this week he became the first player to lose 13-0.
A total of 20 players took part in the competition, including two new ones, as membership numbers continue to rise for the Firth Park-based club.
Several of club members dip their toes into regional action this week when they take part in an event at the Stockton-on-Forest Club, near York.
Heckmondwike Petanque Club meet in Firth Park every Wednesday, 1pm, and Saturday, 10am. New members are welcome and coaching and equipment loan is free.
