Dewsbury Celtic and Shaw Cross Sharks will lock horns in a charity fundraising event this Saturday.

Dewsbury Celtic Under-17s player Ben Restall passed away from cancer in December and the two clubs will be raising money for the Friends in Deed charity with three matches taking place in Crow Nest Park.

Celtic and the Sharks Under-9s kick off proceedings at 12.30pm, followed by a second junior fixture at 1.15pm, with the two open age sides clashing at 2pm for the Ben Restall Trophy.

Shaw Cross go into the game on the back of last Saturday’s impressive Challenge Cup win over London Chargers and both clubs will use the fixture as part of their preparations for the new National Conference season.

Speaking of his side’s win in London, Shaw Cross coach Brett Turner said: “We looked a bit rusty in attack but our fitness was good and the new boys went well.

“London were a decent side who were well drilled but overall it was a good win in a tough game and our young side will improve with more games.”

Celtic, who are coached by Hunslet Hawks player Danny Thomas, look set to have a strong squad on duty.

Celtic side are likely to feature four of their Under-17s side who won the Yorkshire Cup last month and were teammates of Ben’s.

An auction, which includes a signed shirt by Leeds Rhinos new signing Brett Ferres, takes place in the Dewsbury Irish Nash after the match with proceeds going to the Friends in Deed charity.
