THE second half sending off of Andy Shuttleworth proved crucial as Liversedge slipped to defeat in Tuesday’s Northern Counties East League Premier Division trip to Armthopre Welfare.

The visitors were leading 2-1 when Shuttleworth received his marching orders for a second yellow card and although Sedge held out for a time, Armthorpe struck four late blows to condemn them to defeat.

Chris Hannay, Shuttleworth and Darryl Leach all picked up first half bookings, while James Hurtley and Jamie Wasley were cautioned after the break, along with a second for Shuttleworth.

In comparision, Armthorpe only had one player booked all evening, as Sedge felt hard done by.

Welfare broke inside the first minute but saw a shot rebound off a post before Danny Knight dived on the loose ball.

Liversedge took an eighth minute lead in bizarre fashion.

The home goalkeeper had the ball in his grasp but as Hannay went to pressure him, the custodian inexplicably threw it out, straight to Nathan Cartman, who hit a first time shot which clipped in off a post to give Sedge the lead.

Liversedge doubled their advantage after 23 minutes when Hurtley’s shot rebounded to Leach, who drilled it home but on the stroke of half-time, Armthorpe were handed a lifeline when James Walker rifled a free-kick through the Sedge wall and into the net.

Liversedge had a great chance to restore their two-goal lead after 56 minutes when Cartman sent Dave Boardman in on goal. He rounded the goalkeeper only for the ball to run away from him down the slope.

Bordman still managed to reach it before the ball rolled dead but could only fire his shot against the near post.

Shuttleworth saw red after 61 minutes and it changed the course of the game.

David Buck rose to head home a Walker corner after 70 minutes and another teasing cross by the impressive Walker was nodded in by Sam Colbear.

Henry Sibenge headed home a fourth Armthorpe goal as they struck three times in just 10 minutes, before Sibenge dribbled through in the final seconds to slot home.

Liversedge: Knight, Hurtley (Mir 82), White, Hopkins, Leach, Larkin, Hannay (Wasley 80), Shuttleworth, Cartman, Bordman, Hallam (Driscoll 70). Sub (not used): Jagger.
