Thieves strike at tennis club

METAL thieves have caused chaos at Hillside Tennis Club in Cleckheaton.

Hours before the start of the new season on Tuesday players arrived at the club in Spen Lane to find that thieves had broken into the clubhouse and stripped it of any metal, including the stainless steel wash basins.They left taps running and flooded the building.

The intruders even stole a metal plaque commemorating a National Lottery funding award. New net posts all ready for the new season were also taken.

Police were called and are investigating the break-in. The match against Livesedge was postponed.

Hillside are aiming to make repairs and they continue to encourage new members and support.
