Valley rollers get season off to flying start

NEW-LOOK Spen Valley Flyers roller hockey got their season off, well, to a flying start.

They took time to settle in the opening game against Middlesbrough but won comfortably in the end 4-2, with captain Keiran Constable (3) and Elliott Cosgrove scoring the goals. Last year’s league runners up Manchester proved tougher opponents but won 6-5 thanks only to a goal in the last ten seconds.

Constable and Cosgrove were again on target for the Flyers.

Cosgrove (5) and Constable (4) ensured Spen wrapped up their three-match programme with a 9-4 win over host club Halifax.

Special mention must go to newcomers Emma Sangster, Jessica Suffield and goalkeeper Ben Tennyson.

Spen Valley Flyers train on Saturdays at Whitcliffe Mount from 5pm. New members are always welcome. The club also holds family skating sessions between 4pm and 5pm prior to the roller hockey. For more information, ring Jeanette on 07767063014.
