HECKMONDWIKE was a hive of activity at the weekend as more than 2,000 people visited the town for the annual Bounce 'n' Bump family fun day.

Activities in and around Green Park included balloon modelling workshops and nationally renowned artists Shirley Ray, Linda Carling and The Balloon Brothers produced some incredible sculptures including a balloon tree and flowers to decorate the park
.

The Crafty Devilz ran circus skills workshops, taught children juggling, plate spinning and diabolo tricks, while others chose to have their faces painted, have a henna tattoo or enjoy the bouncy castles and rides around the park.

Contemporary clown Maynard Flip Flap surprised and wowed the crowds with his Man in a Box routine as part of his Daft as a Brush show and musical entertainment came courtesy of the Yorkshire Post Jazz Band, the dhol drummers and Slick Stick Sambastic.

Town centre manager Keith Joplin said: "The day was a huge success and I think it's been the best yet in terms of numbers. We had about 2,500 to 3,000 people in over the course of the day and everyone enjoyed themselves, especially as the weather was very kind to us!

"There was a good mixture of activities for all the family and many stayed for the entire day and brought a picnic."

This year's event featured a Bouncerade, where artists and performers paraded around the town centre.

Mr Joplin added: "We started off in the park and marched down Blanket Hall Street, down past Morrisons, along Union Road and back up to the park.

"The bands played as we paraded and a lot of children wanted to join in which was great.

"The event was the culmination of good work between the council's Arts and Creative Economy Development team, town centre management and the Heckmondwike Events Committee.
