The annual event is expected to attract thousands of people from Mirfield and beyond.

Each year the show organisers say it gets bigger and better, and more people than ever go along to enjoy the many attractions the day offers.

This year, organisers have promised more best in show classes, more field competitions and more prizes.

Organiser Richard Hartley said: “This year there are eight horse and pony classes, including the new family pony class; nine fun dog show classes, 42 different flower and vegetable classes, 19 children’s classes, including pre-school, five to 10-year-olds and 11 to 16s, and numerous rabbit, egg and poultry classes for both professionals and pets.

There will also be 23 domestic and craft classes, including the men only baking and the women only carpentry competitions, plus trophies and significant cash prices in memory of the show’s past chairwoman Betty Taylor.

“So whether you are growing, making, riding, petting or baking, it’s time to start preparing your entries.

“There will also be more field competitions than ever before, with the annual Mirfield Show tug-of-war trophy to contest for, the children’s fancy dress competition, the all-comer games, the welly wanging, the adult Bushtucker trials, the kids’ banana eating, the baby show, the scarecrow competition and the family races to close the day.”

Entrance is by ticket, and advance fast-track tickets are available now at £3.50 for adults, from www.mirfieldshow.co.uk/tickets, or Mirfield shops Ramsden’s Butchers, Beadelicious, Oops-A-Daisy and Perfection Nail and Beauty. Advance tickets allow visitors to queue jump on the day.

Entrance is free for children, and £5 on the day for adults. Programmes are £1, in aid of the Forget-Me-Not children’s hospice.

Parking is available at Castle Hall Academy with free shuttle buses to the show and there is a free half-hourly circular bus from the showground to stops in Mirfield.
