Sleuths in tow

AS one of the most popular genres of book borrowed in libraries across the UK, crime seemed like an obvious choice for Kirklees Libraries when they decided to hold their own Month of Crime Festival in November.

Launching the festival will be author and former SAS member Andy McNab who will be at Cleckheaton town hall on Monday October 31 at 7.30pm.

He has written about his experiences in three books, Bravo Two Zero, Immediate Action and Seven Troop, and is the author of the best-selling Nick Stone thrillers as well as a number of other fiction and non-fiction titles.

During the day and evening on Monday gaming fans can have a go at the new game Battlefield 3 – for which he wrote the story – in a mobile game trailer in the car park next to the town hall (over 16s only).

Other authors appearing during this Literary Crime Festival are Tony Thompson at Dewsbury Library on November 29 at 7.30pm; Mike Pannett at Skelmanthorpe Library on November 23 at 7.30pm; Cath Staincliffe at Holmfirth Civic Hall on November 24, Frances Brody (McNeil) at Huddersfield Library on November 28 and local author Simon Swift at Kirkburton Library on November 2. Also to look out for are Jane Carter Woodrow, the highly respected criminologist who has written a book on Rose West plus crime writing days with authors Zoe Sharp and Lesley Horton. In addition storyteller Simon Heywood is at Tolson Museum.
