Tiptoeing around marriage faults

A FRACTURED marriage and a dysfunctional family full of lies covering uncomfortable truths will be laid bare on stage at the West Yorkshire Playhouse next month.

Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, an honest depiction of a family tearing at the fabric of its relationships, tells the tale of the Pollitt family as it gathers to celebrate Big Daddy’s birthday and the broken marriage of Maggie and Brick Pollitt.

Brick, played by Parade’s End’s Jamie Parker, is a handsome yet troubled drinking ex-footballer and is coolly indifferent towards his wife, played by Downton Abbey’s Zoe Boyle, who is like a cat on a hot tin roof as she tiptoes over her marriage.

As the party moves up into the couple’s bedroom, secrets are revealed and ghosts are exorcised.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof is on at the Playhouse in Leeds from October 6 to 27. For tickets call the Box Office on 0113 213 7700 or visit www.wyp.org.uk.
