Whistle Down the Wind at town hall

An amateur dramatics group is bringing a production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Whistle Down the Wind to Spenborough Town Hall in Cleckheaton.

Cleckheaton and Spenborough Amateur Operatic will host evening shows at 7.15pm from tonight (Tuesday) until Saturday, with a Saturday matinee at 2.15pm.

The story follows a devoutly religious young girl who finds a mysterious stranger living in her family’s barn.

When the first words he speaks are “Jesus Christ” the girl, and the other children of the town, come to believe he is the messiah himself and seek to hide and protect him from the townspeople.

The production is based on the Mary Haley Bell novel and the Richard Attenborough film that it was followed by.
