Painting the town pink for campaign

Dozens of shops, cafes and other organisations are helping Soroptimist International of Dewsbury paint the town pink from Monday.

Around 55 businesses will display posters, hold collections or decorate their windows with special displays.

Dewsbury Town Hall will be bathed in pink light for the week and even the Reporter has turned its masthead pink.

We will also donate 1p from every paper sold to Breast Cancer Campaign, a charity funding research into the disease.

Soroptimist president Julie Thompson said members were thrilled at the level of support.

“I think it’s fabulous,” she said. “I didn’t expect we’d get such a great response.

“We’ve spoken to most retailers in the town and had a fantastic uptake from them. They’ve all been really up for it.”

The women’s organisation has teamed up with Dewsbury Retail Forum and town centre management for the event.

The aim is to promote Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the Breast Cancer Campaign .

Reporter editor Hannah Ridgeway said: “Breast cancer affects families in all our communities. Any research which will help improve survival rates will have a profound effect.

“The Reporter is proud to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month and hopes to raise a lot of money for Breast Cancer Campaign through newspaper sales this week.”

The Soroptimists will be collecting for the charity at Sainsbury’s on Sunday and the D Shop will have special displays for the week. On Thursday, Breast Cancer Campaign community liaison officer Peter Johnstone will visit Dewsbury.
