Kirklees GP surgeries rated 'Good'

GP surgeries in Kirklees have received positive feedback in this years national GP Patient Survey.

The annual survey is an England-wide poll, providing data on patient experience for every GP practice in the country. It's carried out by market research company Ipsos MORI on behalf of NHS England.

Between January and March this year patients of GP practices in Kirklees were asked to rate the service they received in areas including making appointments, their views on the care they received, practice opening hours and how their health conditions were managed.

According to the survey, over 80% of people in Kirklees rated the overall experience of their GP practice as ‘good’. When asked about their most recent appointment, patients said they had trust and confidence in their health professional, were given enough time, felt listened to and involved in their care and treatment.

Kirklees practices ranked at or above the national average in relation to satisfaction with appointment times available to them; being offered a choice of appointment; having their mental health needs recognised and understood; and ease of use of practice websites. On average, the proportion of people ordering medication and booking appointments online over the past 12 months was higher in Kirklees than across England.

Overall, practices in Greater Huddersfield scored above the national average on all key indicators in the survey. In North Kirklees, practice rankings improved in a number of areas compared with last year including overall experience, getting through to the practice by phone, helpfulness of reception staff, and satisfaction with appointment offered.

Dr Steve Ollerton, local GP and Chair of NHS Greater Huddersfield Clinical Commissioning Group added: “The majority of contact the average person has with the NHS comes through their local GP practice, so any visit to the GP needs to be as positive as possible.

“This survey helps to highlight where individual practices are doing well as well as areas where improvements are need to the patient experience”.
