25 social workers have left Kirklees Council in the last year

It was revealed in September that some social workers were leaving Kirklees due to financial incentives being offered by other councils. But the report to councillors states: “Vacancy rates are comparable to the West Yorkshire average and significantly lower than the national average.

“However, more recently the service has experienced difficulties with the retention of more experienced staff and over the last 12 months 37 social work practitioners have been appointed, the vast majority of which have been newly qualified.” In the same period 26 social workers have left. The report will be discussed at Kirklees Cabinet on Tuesday.
