Deputy Head Teacher, Helen Chilton, said: “Children love learning outside.

“We teach children about the minibeasts and animals in our local area, we encourage the children to take risks in a safe space, we are teaching children and parents how to grow vegetables and how to cook with them once they are harvested.”

“A purpose-built outdoor classroom, greenhouse, bird and bee houses, planting and seating will all help to improve the area and enable us to develop the children’s understanding of the world around them.”

Tesco has teamed up with Groundwork on its Bags of Help initiative in hundreds of regions which will see three community groups and projects in each of these regions awarded grants of £12,000, £10,000 and £8,000.

The money that successful projects will receive has come from the 5p bag charge which was enforced in October last year.

The school knows it will be receiving at least £8,000 from the scheme, but still have the chance to gain more for the project.

Members of the public can vote in store from now until
November 13.

With every purchase made from a customer a token will be given and then they can place their token in to a box for their project of their choice.

Voting for the Littletown Junior, Infant and Nursery School’s Outdoor Learning Space can be done at Tesco Cleckheaton or Batley Tesco Extra.
