Martyn Lee, Safer Neighbourhood Team coordinator for Batley and Spen, reported that youths are causing a nuisance to traders and residents in the area of Memorial Park , the bus station and surrounding areas.

Gangs have been drinking and allegedly smoking cannabis in these locations for several months.

Between seven and 10 offenders have already had action taken against them after being identified by police alongside the Kirklees Anti Social Behaviour Partnership (KASBP).

Mr Lee said: “We’re looking at a hardcore of young people aged between their early teens and early 20s. The older ones tend to be the ring leaders. We are working to identify those responsible and deal with them accordingly and robustly.

“We welcome any information as to who the perpetrators are. It’s not an exhaustive list and there’s a lot of overlap.

“We always need help from the community.”

There are three options for offenders. Family warning letters, in which parents would be noted of their child’s behaviour, Acceptable Behaviour Contracts (ABCs), which can designate exclusion zones for culprits and if problems are unresolved, an ASBO would be sought. To report anti-social behaviour call 101 or find the Batley and Spen NPT on social media.
