Police are appealing for information after a dog bit a nine-year-old girl, leaving a four inch wound in her leg.

The youngster was playing on the pavement outside her home in Heckmondwike when the dog ran at her and bit her right leg.

The incident took place on Thursday August 28 at around 3pm in Stubley Road.

A man thought to be the dog’s owner then left the scene after retrieving the animal, possibly as he found out police had been called.

He is described as white, aged around 21 years old, 5ft 9in tall, of regular build with short, brown, spikey hair with a blue or green coloured tattoo down one of his arms.

Anyone who can offer any further information is asked to contact PC Helen McGlone at Heckmondwike Police Station on 101 or 01924 206357.
