Asda to open petrol station in Dewsbury

Kirklees Council has approved plans for a supermarket to build a petrol station on its site.
Asda, in Dewsbury, has been given the green light by the council’s planning committee.
Asda’s UK estate town planning manager, Alan Jones, said: “We welcome the positive vote by the planning committee today which will allow us to make a further investment in the Dewsbury superstore.
“The store is very popular and we conducted an in store petition which attracted support from hundreds of customers supportive of a new petrol filling station.

“Customers told us they want a convenient and more affordable place to fill up. We are delighted to be bringing even more value and savings to Dewsbury in the near future.”
The application was approved by 13 votes to one.
A spokesman for Asda said that the expansion would expand local choice and maintain lower prices.
