Axe found in boot

A POLICE officer found an axe and suspected class A drugs in the boot of a car after its driver fled.

On Saturday a police officer noticed a smell of cannabis coming from a car, parked in Occupation Lane, Staincliffe.

He searched the driver and began to search the car.

A police spokesman said the driver then refused to follow instructions, pushed the officer in the face and fled.

The car boot was then opened, revealing an axe, several pairs of gloves and face coverings.

Three wraps of suspected class A drugs were found hidden in an aerosol can.

The suspect was described as an Asian male in his late teens or early twenties, with a large, wide nose.

His face was spotty and he had short dark hair.

He was slim and was wearing a dark navy blue golfing-style jumper with diamond patterns on the front, and dark blue jeans.
