Beer fans host real ale festival at the town hall

Beer enthusiasts staged a real ale festival at Batley Town Hall.

The two-day event last weekend was the first of its kind in the town in recent years, featuring around 15 ales and 10 ciders, as well as Prosecco and wine.

The beer bash was arranged by Ben Gwynne, Paul Fisher, Anthony Longstaff and their team, who have already established the successful Cleckheaton Beer and Music Festival.

Mr Gwyne said: “It was fantastic. This was the first time we’ve held it in Batley and we had a decent turnout.

“We got all the beers from different brewers, some local and some from further away.”

“It was good for a first time and there’s a good possibility we’ll do it again next year.”

A £5 door charge at the festival, held over two full days last Saturday and Sunday at the town hall on Market Place, included a glass and a free drink.

Music at the family-friendly event was provided by bands ranging from rock acts to a 1980s cover outfit.

The lineup included Ruby Macintosh, Good Night Dakota, Atlanta House, Adorned, MKII and The9zeroes.

Mr Gwynne added: “We really appreciate the help we got from the bands. They were fantastic on the day.”
