Bishop of Wakefield visits Headfield School to celebrate £5.6m rebuild

At a ceremony to mark the end of a two-year £5.6m project, the Bishop of Wakefield re-dedicated Headfield Junior School in Savile Town.

The Rt Rev Stephen Platten talked with pupils, discussed the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, said a prayer and unveiled a plaque to mark the occasion.

Then balloons were launched as proud parents looked on.

Headteacher Geoff Smith said: “The bishop’s visit was the culmination of a building project which has been ongoing since 2010 with the aim of virtually rebuilding the school.

“We haven’t gained any more space, but we have replaced a Victorian annexe and some other areas, also creating corridors to connect different parts of the school.

“We are absolutely delighted with the result. It is a lovely building. It has been quite a challenge working round all the construction and changes but well worth it. It’s wonderful.”
