Booze crackdown after fans streak

CRICKET fans have been banned from bringing their own alcohol to big events at a Spen club after drunken fans streaked through the clubhouse.

The men were watching the Priestley Cup final at Spen Victoria between East Bierley and Manningham Mills on Sunday August 26.

The match was rained off – and the men, who had been drinking, stripped off and ran naked through the clubhouse.

A Spen Victoria spokesman said: “A couple of lads who had been drinking all day decided to take their clothes off and run through the clubhouse.

“They were from independent clubs – they were nothing to do with the finalists.

“They had drunk copious amounts during the day.

“It has been decided by the Bradford Cricket League they are going to try and prevent spectators turning up with large amounts of alcohol.”

A letter sent to cricket club chairmen in the league from CEO David Young stated disciplinary action was under way against the men involved.

Mr Young said spectators would no longer be able to bring their own alcohol into grounds at the cup and shield finals.

Police were attending this Sunday’s rearranged final to make sure spectators complied, he added.
