Boy, five, died after Dewsbury hospital overdose

Epileptic Bailey Ratcliffe was given seven times too much phenytoin after suffering seizures.

West Yorkshire Police investigated and prosecutors reviewed the case - but no action will be taken.

Bailey’s heartbroken family, who are still awaiting an inquest, is disgusted by the decision.

Bailey, who was diagnosed with epilepsy aged two, was taken to hospital on May 27 last year after suffering several fits. He was put on a ventilator but at 5.25pm his heart stopped beating. Doctors tried in vain to resuscitate him for 30 minutes.

The Crown Prosecution Service told the family although it was clear Bailey’s death was caused by the overdose, there was insufficient evidence for a conviction.
