A boy who made a miraculous recovery after being knocked down outside his school has won the top honour at his snorkelling club.

Joshua Butler, nine, was left fighting for his life after stepping out in front of a car 18 months ago.

His injuries were so severe he was flown to hospital by air ambulance where he had a lifesaving operation and a metal plate was fitted to his skull.

His family were told Joshua may not survive or could be brain damaged – but doctors were amazed as he gradually made a full recovery.

A few months later Joshua, his brother Robert and friend Connor Hinde-Marsden took part in a course at Batley Snorkelling Club.

They enjoyed it so much they became regular members.

And now the plucky youngster has been named Snorkeller of the Year.
