Paramedics were called at 12.45am on May 7, but were unable to revive Mr Brocklesby. He was pronounced dead at Dewsbury and District Hospital at 1.30am.

Shortly after the stabbing, at a flat in Wellington Street, Dewsbury, friends of Oldroyd took photos of him removing his bloody clothes, Mr Moulson said.

He said Oldroyd gave himself up on May 7, admitting stabbing Mr Brocklesby, but he said he had only used reasonable force to protect his friend.

Oldroyd, of Great Pond Street, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury, admitted possessing an offensive weapon at an earlier hearing. He denies murder.
