In an emotional and nail-biting programme which saw Saffron decline a make-over, the judges decided to put both our local girls through to the last 12 of the competition.

Emma, of Heckmondwike, secured her place as one of the nine who were definitely safe.

But for the second week running Saffron, from Batley, was one of the last four – where the judges look more closely at how they performed in their tasks.

This week was makeover week, and a top stylist was enlisted to give the girls a new look. But Saffron, who was already struggling with her confidence levels, said she feared cutting her long locks would only undermine her confidence further.

Despite pressure from judges Elle McPherson and Dannii Minogue, our girl stuck to her guns and it paid off.

As the final four faced the panel of judges, Danni questioned whether Saffron was quite ready for the competition and whether she would be more confident next year.

But Elle said: “When she stands in front of me, she takes my breath away!”

Saffron was the first of the four to be saved, and joined Emma and the other finalists for the next stage of the competition.

Morley call centre worker Emma, who was given a Scandinavian blonde makeover, said she was delighted with her new hairstyle, though she was a little unsure about her bleached eyebrows!

Their photoshoot this week was designed to show elegance and strength, and their task was to pose on a pommel horse with pin-up gymnast and Olympic medallist Louis Smith.
