Ruth Harrison, 26, from Mirfield, came home on Saturday night to find the £8,000 Mini she had been saving up for since university had been stolen.

After forcing the lock on their front door, burglars trashed the couple’s home, making off with boyfriend Mark Davies’ trials bike, two flat screen TVs, an iPad, jewellery and even a half-bottle of perfume.

And it was in Ruth’s beloved nightfire-red Mini, which she had bought just before the new year, in which they made their escape.

She said: “When we turned into the street, the first thing I said was ‘where is my car?’

“I was just devastated about it – this has never happened to me before, and to see something that you have worked so hard for that is your pride and joy is so hard.

“I loved that car – I bought it around new year, and it matches my hair. Now I doubt I’ll ever see it again.”

She said the car has a distinctive scratch in front of the speedometer, and some stitching missing from the passenger seat. She added Mark’s trials bike, which was also purchased around new year, had distinctive red pedals.

“We had recently moved in together so, unfortunately, we had two of everything, which is why the two televisions were stolen,” she said.

“But I think the burglars will never know how it feels to work for something and, because of this, they will never be able to enjoy what they took.

“You can’t let them win. They may steal things, but they will never be able to enjoy them.”
