A rallying cry has gone out to women of all ages, shapes and sizes, to help kick cancer where it hurts at this year’s Race for Life events.
The 5k and 10k races kick off in our region with the Thornes Park, Wakefield 5k on Sunday June 2 - and there’s still time to get involved.
Events are also taking place in Huddersfield, Halifax, Leeds, Bradford and Pontefract in June and July.
Nicki Embleton, Cancer Research UK spokesperson, said: “We are appealing to women and girls from across Dewsbury to join us and help kick cancer’s butt by entering Race for Life today.
“There are still some places left at events nearby in Wakefield, Pontefract Huddersfield, Leeds, Bradford and Halifax. And we really appreciate the extra effort it might take to travel to these venues, but only together can we hit cancer where it hurts.”
Every hour, around three people are diagnosed with cancer in Yorkshire and Humberside*.
The women-only series of events raises millions of pounds every year to help defeat cancer by funding life-saving research. It’s not competitive, lots of fun and you can walk, jog or run the course.
Money raised through Race for Life allows Cancer Research UK’s doctors, nurses and scientists to advance research. Events in West Yorkshire include:
