Changes made at ‘inadequate’ home

CHANGES have been made at a council-run children’s home after two serious incidents.

Ofsted inspectors said ‘inadequate’ progress was being made at Orchard View in Mirfield when they visited earlier this year.

It said there had been two serious incidents – but gave no specific details – which led to safeguarding referrals since its previous visit in September. One incident took place when evening staff left work early.

The centre, which offers respite care to children with learning and physical disabilities, can accommodate up to eight children.

A Kirklees spokeswoman said the home was still rated as good, and outstanding in some areas, by Ofsted.

She said the safeguarding issues had been addressed.

She said: “Managers are confident that the home will continue to enjoy a favourable grading from Ofsted when it is next inspected.”
