Charitable guests had a ball

An evening of dinner, dancing and entertainment from singing group Songsational drew another sell-out crowd.

Each year the ball supports a different worthy cause, with the Options Centre in George Street set to benefit from the latest fundraiser.

Organising committee member Trish Makepeace said the total was still to be finalised, but it was expected to be substantial.

Last year’s event raised £8,000 for the Dewsbury-based Luke and Marcus Trust.

Mrs Makepeace said: “It was another sell-out year and we had a lot of new faces there. Everybody thoroughly enjoyed the evening.”

The Mayor of Kirklees, Coun Martyn Bolt, and town crier Laurie Gilbert were among the guests.

Support was also given from Dewsbury Area Committee, which donated £1,000 towards the venue cost.

Options Centre manager Lesley O’Donnell: “It was lovely to be chosen as the beneficiaries and we had a wonderful evening.

“I’ve got lots of things I’d like to do with the money so we’ll see what the total is, but it is going to benefit the centre and all the people who use it.”

The centre hires out rooms and minibuses to a range of groups, including a drumming class for people with special needs.

It also hosts luncheon clubs, Prince’s Trust programmes and Phab Club, a group for physically handicapped people.
