A group of friends have completed a coast to coast cycle ride for charity in memory of one biker’s daughter.

Sarah Hudson, 43, whose 11-month-old daughter Ella died in 2000 from nerve disorder Krabbe disease, cycled from Sunderland to Whitehaven with friends Jo Allen, 43, and Lynn Sampson, 54.

And last month Jo also ran the Great North Run. The friends raised £250 with the two events for Martin House children’s hospice, which cared for Ella and her family in her last months.

Sarah said: “We set off and went 15 miles in the wrong direction so we had to go back again! We cycled 145 miles in three days.”

Sarah said since Ella’s death, she and husband Paul had raised £40,000 for the hospice, which needs £30,000 a week to operate.

She said: “Last year we cycled from Leeds to Liverpool and we’ve organised lots of things to raise money. It’s a fantastic charity.” Visit
