Charity dog walk in honour of former headteacher

Karen Summers was head at High Bank Junior Infant and Nursery School, but sadly passed away after a short illness in June.

The 54-year-old, who had held the post since September 2013, was described as a “lovely and caring woman” by colleagues.

In her honour, the school decided to take part in a dog walk in support of Bloodwise, a charity close to the heart of Mrs Summers and her family.

The walk involved the whole school, including parents, pupils, staff, governors and volunteers.

Jackie Croft, business manager at the school, said: “The pupils dressed with a dog theme for the day, carried a cuddly dog and enjoyed face painting and mask making.

“We raised £271.61 for the charity.

“We all miss Karen so much. She just made the school what it is and gave a lot of time.

“She was such a caring, lovely woman and meant a lot to the whole school and community.

“High Bank is a close-knit community and her hard work and dedication touched the lives of so many.”
