Shoppers in Cleckheaton have been told to visit their GP ‘urgently’ after blood pressure tests.

Cleckheaton District Rotary, in association with the charity Stroke UK, offered a free blood pressure check in the Central Arcade in Cleckheaton and found that five of the 41 people who took part were in urgent need of medical attention.

Michael Shires from Cleckheaton Rotary said: “We feel that this makes the whole event worthwhile as even if only one person discovered that they may have a condition of which they were previously unaware, it was time well spent.”

He also took the time to praise the volunteers who helped with the event, adding: “We are deeply indebted to volunteer nurses Margaret Middleton and Helen Brown who gave up their valuable time to assist in this event.”
