Children’s teeth stolen in home burglary

The sentimental keepsakes were among electrical items and well over £1,000 of jewellery taken by 20-year-old Hayden Campbell.

He admitted breaking into the side door of the property in Edge Lane at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

The owners of the house had left their property on the morning of January 9, to return home later the same day to find that someone had entered their house.

Prosecutor Miss Fowler said: “Witnesses saw a male at the address in a vehicle, that was linked to the defendant’s girlfriend.”

The court heard that Campbell, of Kensington Way, Leeds, lied to his girlfriend saying that he wanted to pick something up from his aunt’s house when in fact he was breaking into somebody’s home.

Police later obtained mobile phone evidence linking Campbell and his girlfriend to the area at that time.

When questioned by police, Campbell said he thought he had been in Leeds on the day of the crime working as a plumber with his brother.

But he refused to comment when asked if he had ever been to the Thornhill area.

Campbell stole a flat screen TV, jewellery and items of sentimental value worth up to £85.

The items stolen have not been recovered.

Campbell who appeared in the dock in jeans and a pink T-shirt, pleaded guilty.

Campbell was committed to Leeds Crown Court to be sentenced next month for a string of offences.

Magistrates granted Campbell unconditional bail.
