Chomping at the bit to raise money!

As a rule, me and my Welsh cob Maggie are more used to prancing round the showring or showing off in the dressage arena than doing anything too strenuous.

But the Reporter Series Fund is raising money for such brilliant causes that it seemed like a shame not to do something for it.

So this week we’ve begun a sponsored ride, to cover the equivalent of the coast-to-coast walk – a whopping 293kms.

Much to the relief of Maggie – whose show name is Ristol Cardi Princess – relief we won’t be doing it all at once though! We’re breaking it up into sessions in our riding arena at home, so we cover the equivalent of the walk.

I’m giving myself six months to complete the ride – come rain or shine we’ll be out in the arena, walking, trotting and cantering round to rack up the laps for the fund.

It’s not too bad in summer – we’ve racked up 1,800 metres in a week – but it could get interesting when the weather turns colder!

Although the hardest part was working out how many laps of the 40x20 manege we needed to do to cover the distance...

So far Dewsbury and Mirfield Reporter news editor Lindsay Pantry has made a whopping £600 and counting for the fund with a marathon skate.

And reporter Joe Cooper raised more than £120 by completing the Brian Robinson Challenge, a 120km bike ride when he even got to meet the great man himself.

So if you would like to sponsor me (and Maggie, of course) either email me at [email protected] or go to our Reporter Fund Virgin Giving page, where we can make even more money through gift aid. Go to http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/team/reporterseriesfund.

Meanwhile, two local schools have agreed to join our fundraising efforts tomorrow.

BBG and Birkenshaw Primary schools are both holding non-uniform days to raise money for our fund. And Birkenshaw Primary pupils will also be baking buns to sell for our fund.
