Classic car show back for Mayday

It is the fourth successive year that the show has been held in Dewsbury, as around 150 motor enthusiasts from across Yorkshire drive their old-school vehicles up to the park for members of the public to observe on May 4.

But the event is as much a day out for the kids as it is for those hoping for a snoop at the cars, with stalls selling a variety of things, including children’s books. There will also be a raffle, a tombola, food and drink vans and homemade cakes.

The event was formerly held in the White Rose Shopping Centre but moved to Dewsbury in 2012 and has proved popular with the town’s people ever since. Last year’s show saw around 3,000 people turn out in the blazing sunshine.

Jenifer Devlin, who is part of the Friends of Crow Nest Park group, said: “There’ll be something for everybody on the day.

“We’re hoping for some warm, dry weather like what we had last year so that people can come along and have a picnic and enjoy themselves.

“The individual owners will bring their cars along and will be more than happy to chat to people about them. They’re tremendous enthusiasts and the cars are always very beautifully presented and in superb condition. Everyone is welcome to browse them and talk.”

Entry on the day is free of charge.
