Clean team sweep in

Ravensthorpe Residents Action Group was awarded £1,500 by the Dewsbury West Community First Panel to help with its projects.

The group has been hard at work with litter picks and sorting out the Green Corridor between Clarkson Street and Dewsbury Country Park, which it said had become a hotspot for fly tipping and anti-social behaviour.

Chairman Bruce Bird said: “Everyone wants to have a decent, quiet life in a decent place. That is the one common objective.”

Mr Bird, of Broomer Street, said the way to keep a area clean was to instill a sense of community responsibility and pride.

One of the options the group was looking at was putting up signs that would let passers-by know that other people were not happy about litter being dropped.

The group wanted to cut off mess at its source and move people to work harder at keeping Ravensthorpe a pleasant place to live.

He said: “If a place looks like a mess people don’t care about dropping their litter, but if you can keep the place clean and tidy you have got an argument that people should not drop litter.”
