Cleckheaton woman, 74, dies after being hit by car

The 74-year-old pedestrian, who has not yet been named, was struck in Huddersfield and died at the scene.

Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

West Yorkshire Police’s Major Collision Enquiry Team now want to speak to anyone who has information about the incident which took place at about 7.32pm in Fitzwilliam Street.

A black Toyota Aygo left the Castlegate Loop and entered Fitzwilliam Street before hitting the woman and then a silver Peugeot.

PC Jeremy Hepworth, of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are investigating this incident this morning and are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the collision or the manner in which the black Aygo was being driven just before the collision.

“An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving in connection with the incident and remains in police custody for questioning.

“Anyone who has information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team on 101.”
