Ian Saville, of Ian Saville Fabrications in Batley, made the generous donation to Thornhill United FC, which provides free football for children of all ages.

Thornhill United chairman Chris Kennedy said: “It’s very refreshing to find that a successful businessman like Ian is prepared to be so generous.

“Ian has never forgotten attending school in Thornhill and was pleased to help the local children.

“Meeting a local lad who is very successful can only be good for the kids as it’s always good to feed their ambitions.”

Thornhill United is a Charter Standard Club, which means all its managers are qualified and CRB checked with the police.

Mr Kennedy said: “Organised sport not only gives kids a hobby, it keeps them fit and healthy and gives social skills and extends their network of friends.

“This sort of thing used to be subsidised by the local authority, but nowadays if volunteers didn’t raise money and people like Ian Saville didn’t donate then I just wonder what these kids would be doing if football wasn’t available.”

Anyone wishing to join the club as a manager, coach or player, or who would like more information, can call Mr Kennedy on 07904 586794.
