Clubs receive £100K grant to boost facilities

East Bierley Community Sports Association will use a £17m to replace two changing facilities at Birkenshaw Rugby Club.

The association, made up of Birkenshaw Rugby League Club, Hunsworth FC and Dudley Hill FC, is one of 324 local sports projects to receive £50,000 of National Lottery funding.

They have received an additional £50,000 from the Football Stadia Fund to upgrade the facilities at East Bierley playing fields.

The money will be used to refurbish the existing changing rooms, improve disability access and pay for a new catering facility.

Association secretary Simon Armitage said the grants will make a “significant difference” to the clubs.

He said: “Both football teams have been unable to get promoted because of the state of the changing facilities.

“Not so long ago there was talk our changing rooms were going to be condemned. How we got another season out of them I do not know.

“But having these grants will make a huge difference as we had been looking into sorting out an alternative for a while.”

The grant is not just for improving their adult facilities but means they can continue
