Commuters’ cars torched by arsonists near railway station

Jenna Hall, whose Nissan Micra convertible was parked on Station Road near Mirfield Railway Station, found her car “gutted” by flames when she returned from work at 9pm, on October 22.

A Ford KA, parked nearby, was also set on fire.

Jenna’s mum, Angela Hall, said: “Jenna loved that car, it was in perfect condition and she always looked after it but it was totally gutted by the fire and so was the other car, they just went up in flames.

“Jenna got off the train after she finished work in Leeds and there was a crowd of people waiting on the road.

“Then she saw her car had been set on fire and another woman’s was torched as well - it looked horrendous.

“I’m absolutely heartbroken that someone could do that to my daughter, it’s been a terrible week for us.”

Her car had a 2008 registration and Mrs Hall, of Huddersfield, said it was worth around £3,200.

Jenna also lost possessions, which were stored in the car.

Mrs Hall said firefighters were called to the scene and the flames were put out.

A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said the incident was being treated as arson and that enquiries were ongoing.

Dewsbury and Mirfield Neighbourhood Policing Team is appealing for information to help identify a group of teenagers seen near the scene.

Police said the group of youngsters went into the nearby Lidl supermarket car park, off Station.
