“Substantial” police enquiries were made into an alleged kidnapping in the early hours this morning (Friday).

A man told operators ‘Let me out, I’ve been kidnapped’ during a 999 call.

But officers later found out the call was nothing more than a hoax.

Det Insp Jim Griffiths, of Kirklees CID, said: “A call was received at 12.50am this morning.

“Substantial police enquiries were made and as a result a 29-year-old local man was found to be responsible for a bogus call.”

The man, who was traced to Filley Royd in Cleckheaton, was given a penalty notice and £100 fine.
