Jewellery and scratch card machine stolen in double raid

Police have linked two early morning raids after thieves smashed their way shops in Dewsbury and Gomersal stealing jewellery and a scratch card machine.

The thieves broke into Argos in Dewsbury town centre before driving a stolen car to a second raid at Sainsbury’s in Oxford Road, Gomersal,

The first took place at 3.09am on Tuesday July 6 when burglars threw an object through the window of Argos in the Princess of Wales Precinct.

After stealing jewellery they left in a silver Toyota Celica and smashed the window of the Sainsbury’s store, taking champagne and a scratch card machine at 3.39am.

Both premises were unoccupied at the time and police were called by security services.

Det Insp Mark Truelove, of Kirklees CID, said police were looking for three men and believed the vehicle they used may have been stolen in a burglary the previous day, now displaying fake number plates.

Anyone with information should call police on 101.
