The robbery happened at the local artisan coffee shop at 4:45 yesterday evening, whilst a female member of staff was present.

In a Facebook post, the Pie Shed said: "It's with a very heavy heart that I write this post. We have been targeted and violated again. One of my wonderful ladies has endured an armed robbery at 4.45pm this afternoon.

"Yes in broad daylight, yes my member of staff is very shaken up and was terrified and yes we are very very shocked and saddened.

"At this moment in time we are giving statements to the police and they are doing a forensic search. Thank you for the speedy response of the police.

"Luckily no one was harmed, my very brave member of staff did exactly as she should.

"Yes we are down in money, the staffs tips have been taken and we are left questioning the morals of some but we will never ever be down in spirit.

"You see we are The Pie Shed and nothing and no one will ever hold us down!!"

West Yorkshire Police said investigations are ongoing and issued the following statement: "Police are investigating a report of a robbery at the Pie Shed, Dewsbury yesterday at around 4.45pm.

"The suspect approached the premise and asked a woman working inside to let him in. He then produced a hammer before smashing a window.

"After gaining entry, he demanded money from the till and made off with a quantity of cash.

"Enquiries remain ongoing."
