THE leader of a community project which has been targeted by burglars twice in three months says she is devastated by the latest theft.
In May thieves stole a dozen bicycles used by disabled people and under-privileged children from the Spen Pool and Fitness Complex – and on Wednesday morning staff turned up to find they had struck again.
Gill Greaves said: “I am absolutely gutted and very angry. This time they have taken five bikes, but more importantly they have taken a box of bike parts that we use to teach young people how to repair the bikes.
“After the last break-in we had security lights put in but somehow they have over-ridden the electricity, switched them off and got in.
“Now we may have to look at moving somewhere else which is more secure.”
The staff spent yesterday moving the remaining items from the premises to prevent any more thefts.
“It’s so dispiriting, we work so hard providing training and doing community projects and we can’t afford to keep losing our stock,” said Gill.
Anyone with information about the thefts should call the police on 101.
