Around 40 cyclists set off from Mirfield town centre, riding a gruelling 120 miles to Sutton Bank, North Yorkshire, and back.

The annual event started three years ago to celebrate the 120th anniversary of the club. This year members decided to support Kirklees Cycling Academy, who provide coaching for eight to 18 year olds.

Club captain Alex Millman said around £300 had been raised. “The academy supports young riders and it’s great that we can put money back into the sport we all love.”

Academy volunteers helped out by manning the feeding stations along the route. “They were lovely – they kept us fed and watered and made it very slick,” Mr Millman added. The club hope to develop their relationship with the academy and support them in coming years.
