Dental duo scale new heights for charity

Andy and Katie Wallwork, who both work at Thornhill Dental Surgery, scaled Kilimanjaro in aid of British Heart Foundation.

They took part in the fundraising feat alongside Tony Johnston’s wife, brother and sister-in-law.

Mr Johnston was travelling home from a holiday in Spain with his wife and two young sons in 2010 when he suffered a heart attack. He was airlifted to a hospital in France, but died a short time later.

Since then his wife, Sally, has raised more than £35,000 for the heart disease charity.

The climb in September was one of the last big fundraisers in her appeal and was a challenge Mr Johnston had always wanted to undertake.

Mr Wallwork, 42, said: “It was the hardest thing I’ve done because of the altitude which kicked in on day two.

“We met a really great group of people though and it has been a really rewarding experience.”

The couple, who live in Rembrandt Avenue, Tingley, have now £3,100 from generous sponsors.

Mr Wallwork said thanked family, friends and patients for their donations and encouragement.

“The practice have been very supportive,” he said. “We’ve raised a lot of money from patients as well.”
