Dewsbury care home Burking Banks told to make urgent improvements

A CARE home has been told to make urgent improvements after a watchdog found it was short-staffed, putting residents’ safety at risk.

Inspectors found that Burking Banks care home, which looks after people with dementia, had not made any changes to staffing since concerns were raised in June.

Now the Care Quality Commission (CQC) has issued a formal warning to the home’s registered provider, Kevin Martin, saying he must make urgent improvements or face further action.

The home, in Moorlands Road, Dewsbury, did not have enough qualified staff to meet residents’ needs when it was inspected by the CQC in June.

Malcolm Bower-Brown, CQC’s director in the north said: “This warning sends a clear and public message that Mr Martin needs to address these issues as a matter of urgency or face serious consequences.

“Our inspectors will return to Burking Banks in the near future and if we find that the provider is not making the required progress we won’t hesitate to use our legal powers to ensure residents are receiving the service they are entitled to expect.”
