Dewsbury comic book author releases new graphic novel By ‘Eck

FIRST he threatened to destroy Dewsbury with a comet – now Hugh Raine has submerged the town centre in water.

The 30-year-old comic book author has set his latest work, By ‘Eck, in a flood-stricken Dewsbury.

His last graphic novel, Find Comet, Hit Comet, Watch Comet, Sleep, was set in town partly based on Dewsbury.

Hugh said: “The last one was based on a town a bit like Dewsbury, but with this one I wanted to set the whole thing in Dewsbury.

“In the new one I flood the town and I thought the logistics of working out what would flood and what wouldn’t would be easier to find out if I set it in my home town.”

Although he did not want to spoil the surprise of how Dewsbury gets flooded,

Hugh said By ‘Eck tells the weird and wonderful story of two people looking for a lost cat in a world gone mad.

Hugh said: “Kids will get a kick out of it because it’s got animals acting strange and adults will enjoy the Yorkshire dialect.”

Hugh, of Willans Road, spent last spring and summer working on the 50-page novel and he is now selling it at comic book fairs and on his website, www.reetcomic.co.uk.
